"In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it.", says Lindsay Lohan's Cady Heron in Mean Girls (2004).
Nowadays, people are stepping up their game as we have access to a multitude of Online Shops, and both DIY and Make-up Tutorials. A lot of people use it as an opportunity to steal some of their favorite film and television looks - which is the norm for every cosplayer such as myself. I can't speak for others, but I personally would rather do something in theme.
One of my biggest goals since I started cosplaying in 2014 is to plan, compile, and shoot a variety of Halloween costumes to post on my feed throughout the month of October. One costume alone is hard enough to figure out with new conventions popping up every month.
My Halloween costumes for the past four years have been: Lydia Deetz (Beetlejuice), Violet Beauregarde (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Misa Amane (Death Note), and Tiffany (Bride of Chucky) as the most recent. As much as I would love to channel my inner Ruby Lane from the Fear Street Trilogy, there is yet another event the week after Halloween and one of the biggest conventions the next weekend.
For now. I just want to go through all my costumes in depth:
In 2019, I decided to put together a quick Lydia Deetz cosplay since I just got into the Beetlejuice musical.
It's not completely accurate but I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out considering I ordered everything in a span of 2 weeks. I haven't brought it back since, but I'd love to for the sole purpose of having a reason to bring my camera around a convention to take pictures with.
The pandemic was still at its height by 2020. I've been with Cebu X-Geeks for three months at this point when we decided to do our first Halloween Stream.
Sadly, I don't have many pictures of this look as my hard drive got corrupted. But my tendency to overshare on Instagram came in clutch! As my Instagram Story caption says, I put together a half-assed costume of Violet Beauregard from Carlie and the Chocolate Factory with the inspiration of my freshly bleached hair for a game of Brawlhalla.

For our second Halloween Stream, we decided to have our own 'lil party as we shared our personal scary stories. Like my last Halloween Costume, I wanted to get into the spoopy spirit but had nowhere to go and didn't have the energy to get into full-cosplayer mode so once again I found a character that works with my current hair color and mixed and matched pieces from my closet.
This was also around the same time I re-watched Death Note which prompted me to channel my inner Misa Amane.
Lastly, we have my Tiffany (Bride of Chucky) look for a Yassified Horror Movie Killers (Serial Killers Anonymous) Halloween Party I threw with my friends. My outfit may or may not have been inspired by Taylor Momsen...
And that has been my Mini Halloween lookbook!
