May 2022 | Monthly Book Wrap-up

I've been on a reading slump for the past 8 years. And that wasn't because of the lack of books to read - In fact, I had quite the arsenal in my TBR pile. I've even gone to book sales and got myself some new genres I hoped would get me back into the mood as I assumed I was growing out of Young Adult Novels. None seemed to work... Unless you count the occasional comic book releases that peaked my interest and the mountain of Archive of our Own fanfiction I indulged myself with.

Ultimately, it was running Fanfics dry that led me to find solace in BookTok recommendations. Suddenly, I found slowly getting myself back in the game going from reading YA to Smut in the blink of an eye.

Book: The Enemy Trap

Author: Maren Moore

Rating: ★★★☆☆ / ★★★★★

Cute (I say as there's smut, but it's slow burn) 'lil read with the enemies to lovers troupe I was craving for after all these years. Regardless, there wasn't anything THAT special to set it apart from other books like

Book: The Newspaper Nanny

Author: Maren Moore

Rating: ★★★★☆ / ★★★★★

Juliette's relationship with her grandmother and the girls she watches over were one of, if not, my favorite parts of the story (it's the kind of dynamic I wish my friends and I would have in the future). The romance developed a lot more naturally in this book compared to The Enemy Trap.

Book: The Pleasure List

Author: Emma Mallory

Rating: ★★★★★ / ★★★★★

I love a good smut with a plot! Especially when the characters aren't (that) unnecessarily dramatic about the situations they're in. The bonus scene caught me off guard and I've never been more happier about being wrong.

Book: The Spanish Love Deception

Author: Elena Armas Rating: ★★☆☆☆ / ★★★★★

I don't know if I went in with too much expectations with all the hype BookTok was giving it or if it just came off a little lackluster to me. Some choices were made and it felt like it was just done for the sake of plot convenience. Not gonna lie, there were certain scenes wherein I had to take a break from reading because of secondhand embarrassment. In addition, I also thought that Aaron Blackfort is such a bland love interest. Catalina Martín could do so much better!
